The Mask We Hide Behind
We have all had experiences that have transformed our lives. Some have happened at a young age and some so grand in scale it takes the course of years. These experiences have hurt us, taught us, and even changed us. We must continue to remember and never forget what they truly are though. They will forever be an experience. Not who we are. For that one time we felt small, we are not forever small. For that what time we felt shameful does not mean we are forever full of shame.
In motivational workshops there's a phrase used to encourage strength in uneasy times. It is referenced as standing for someone. "Who is going to stand for them when they are about to fall. Who is going to stand behind them and hold them accountable". Wear It On Your Sleeve wants you to remember to never forget to stand for yourself! We can not always be responsible for every individual around us but we can always be accountable for the energy we bring into a room. It is through standing for ourselves in every moment that we are naturally standing for everyone in the room with us. The best way to stand for yourself is through the delivery of your words.
The concept to remember is the price of delivery. A delivery must always be done in the most appropriate matter.
If you haven't watched Netflix's Orange is the New Black, you may want to check it out sometime soon. The quote is a prime example of just how powerful a delivery can be. Apply this to ourselves, our inner self. We must stop beating up the person inside us and stop the ego from filling us with regret and embarrassment. Acknowledge our feeling and then own it. We will not receive or create positivity in our life from shaming our past experiences. The only constant in this universe, in our lives, is this precise moment called the now. What we decide to do with it is up to us, always and forever.
Remember, we are always responsible for how we show up in this world everyday. Remember to be kind to yourself. Stand up for yourself. Choose not to wear a mask to hide your emotions. When we are willing to be vulnerable our brightest features shine brighter and its a chance for the world to really see our true faces. Sometimes it will be hard and sometimes we will get hurt. For the times we feel pain remember that we will learn how to take care of ourselves better. If we add armor to protect ourselves then eventually it will bring us down. The weight in time will encumber us. We will begin to feel comfortable in not our true skin continuing to live in defensive mode. Take off the mask. Take off the armor. Its time to let the world see you for who you really are. Share the gift of you, you were born with it
